The Rivers |
All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from where the rivers come, there they return again. Ecclesiastes 1:7
The beast of the field shall honour me, the dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness... Isaiah 43:20
Rivers are the collection of rain and streams flowing to the oceans, and the source of life for a multitude of plants, animals and humans.
I have learned many valuable lessons in life floating up and down these "living highways."
Virginia has some of the most unique, historic and magnificent rivers to be found. The New River, like the Nile, flows north for hundreds of miles. According to science, the New is the second oldest river in the world, preceded only by the Nile. The James River is where the first successful English colony, Jamestown, was established. Virginia's rivers of sheer power, beauty and peace are too numerous to name.
Experience one of Virginia's rivers for yourself. Take a boat trip, rent a canoe, or grab an innertube and ride upon the currents. Sit down on the bank and cast in a line, or skim a stone across the surface.
Listen to the birds and the bugs put on their endless orchestrations, as the wind and the river rush by. . . Nature's ancient "Sound of Music." Take in the smell and the sight of the numerous wildflowers. Watch the fish jump and the dragonflies skimming the surface for food.
